Apple to cut Books App workforce due to shifting priorities

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) is cutting jobs in its digital services department, which includes music, movies, books and other media and entertainment applications.
The Apple Books App is copping the majority of the layoffs, according to a Bloomberg report citing “people with knowledge of the matter”.
While barely a dent in Apple 100,000-strong global workforce, the move indicates a shift in priorities within the department.
Some engineering roles will also be slashed.
According to Bloomberg, affected employees were given 60 days to find another job within Apple before being terminated.
Apple has been less trigger happy with layoffs compared to its Magnificent Seven counterparts like Google-parent Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG), which said earlier this year it could lay off as many as 30,000 employees in its sales division.
Facebook-parent Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, ETR:FB2A, SWX:FB) was a prolific headcount slasher in 2023, particularly in its augmented reality wing.
