Livium Ltd subsidiary Envirostream has secured an $850,000 funding agreement with the Western Australian government under the E-waste Infrastructure Grants program to build a battery recycling facility in WA.
The grant will partially fund the development of an Envirostream battery recycling facility, using cutting-edge battery sorting and dismantling technology.
The Western Australian site will focus on the collection, sorting, discharge and storage of batteries before they’re transported to Envirostream’s Campbellfield facility for final processing to Mixed Metal Dust (MMD) and other metals.
Building battery recycling ecosystem
“This funding agreement with the WA Government represents another significant step forward in our mission to establish a sustainable national battery recycling ecosystem,” Livium managing director and CEO Simon Linge said.
“The company’s long-term recycling strategy also involves the development of battery processing capabilities in WA and other states once minimum collection volumes are met.
“By fostering local recycling capabilities, we aim to strengthen Australia’s position in the global battery recycling industry and contribute to a circular economy.”
The grant funding follows a WA Government commitment to e-waste recycling and building sustainable recycling in Western Australia – the state government has already committed $10 million in grants to boost the local e-waste recycling industry.
The state implemented a ban on sending e-waste to landfill in July last year.
Livium says the new facility will form a core component of its strategic recycling roadmap, which envisions a comprehensive national network for battery collection, sorting and recycling that establishes an integrated end-of-life battery processing industry domestically.
