Black Swan Graphene (TSX-V:SWAN) has launched GEM S27M, a graphene-enhanced HDPE masterbatch that significantly improves mechanical properties and supports sustainable packaging solutions.
HDPE is well-regarded for its high strength-to-density ratio, making it ideal for packaging applications such as plastic bottles and garbage bags.
In a statement from Black Swan, the company said that by incorporating graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) into HDPE, GEM S27M significantly enhances the material's mechanical properties, including increased strength and durability.
By blending the new HDPE masterbatch with recycled polyethylene (PE), customers can achieve enhanced material performance while supporting environmental conservation efforts.
GEM S27M follows the recent launches of other graphene-enhanced masterbatches from Black Swan, all derived from its GraphCore Powder.
"When polymers are recycled, some of the original properties are often reduced,” explained Chris Herron, vice-president of research and product development at Black Swan.
“The addition of small amounts of graphene, typically less than 1% loading, reinforces and enhances the original mechanical performance parameters."
Black Swan concentrates on scaling up the production and commercializing patented, cost-effective graphene products tailored for various industries like concrete, polymers, Li-ion batteries, and more, all anticipating substantial graphene demand.
